Every Tuesday I present a blog post on a track I love that addresses a travel-related topic, inspires wanderlust, or simply seems like the perfect accompaniment to your travels.
I hope that within this regular blog series you find some music you love to take away with you – wherever that may be!
The Foals ‘Sunday’ Review
The Foals have been one of my favourite bands since their debut album ‘Antidotes‘ in 2008. As a devout follower since the beginning, I’ve probably seen them live more than I have any other band. As a result, I’ve noticed each album and energy-filled show getting even better as time has gone on.
‘Sunday‘ is a track that comes from the Foals very latest album released in 2019 titled ‘Part 1 Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost‘. As the name suggests, it is the first part of a two part album. Despite this, it still feels complete – confidently standing on its own without feeling like it needs the support of a second album.
‘Sunday‘ is a slow burning 5.54 minute long track that you can get totally, utterly lost in. It is initially a waltzing, dreamy indie track that suddenly breaks into a surprising electronic remix of the chorus. From this pumping interlude, it then brings you to a rock-heavy climax, with belting heartfelt vocals by Yannis and awesome crashing cymbals by drummer Jack Bevan. ‘Sunday‘ really is an unpredictable musical roller coaster.
The lyrics personally resonate with me as an avid solo traveller, and also because I like to indulge in travelling as a form of escapism from everyday life.
‘Time away from me is what I need,
To clear my sight and clear my head’
If there are going to be more tracks like this in part two, well then it may just become my favourite Foals album of all time.
Without further ado, here is the official music video for ‘Sunday’ by the Foals (please get it on repeat!):
